Flying Higher Than the Storms: A Love Letter to Fellow Skybound Moms

Hey Skybound Moms!

As I soar through the skies on my 3-day trip, turbulence forces me to take a seat. But gazing out the window, I’m reminded of our incredible journey as moms. We’ve weathered countless storms – both literal and figurative. Have you ever noticed that when the plane ascends to higher altitudes, it breaks through turmoil and emerges into radiant sunshine? That’s exactly how we navigate life’s turbulence and storms, emerging stronger like this aircraft.

A Turbulent Moment

As I take my seat, the intercom interrupts my thoughts. “Dig! Dong! Dig! Dong! Ladies and gentlemen, I have to take my seat now due to turbulence. If it’s an emergency, please ring your call button again.”

A gentle voice breaks the tension. “Hi! Is everything okay?” A passenger asks, “May I please have a plastic bag?” He adds, “I think I might need a bigger sick bag than this,” pointing to the standard issue. I promptly grab a larger one from the galley and return to my seat, buckled up and ready to navigate the turbulence.

We adapt, we adjust, and we keep moving forward. We shouldn’t wait for the storms to pass; instead, we rise above them to a higher altitude.

Lessons from the Flight Deck

From pilots, we learn:

1. Stay calm under pressure (breathe, mama!)

2. Adjust course when necessary (flexibility is key.)

3. Trust your training (and instincts – you’ve got this!)

Before I Left For The Trip

My son Karlvin turned 8 yesterday, and we celebrated with a joyful family gathering. This morning, I tidied up from the festivities and then whisked the kids off to gymnastics practice – the countdown begins, just 7 weeks until their first competition! Balancing family milestones and daily routines is our superpower, making us stronger and more resilient with each passing day.

The Power of Community

“It takes a village to raise a child” is more than just a saying – it’s a profound truth. As flight attendants rely on each other during turbulent flights, moms need a similar support network. Our training emphasizes independence and teamwork, especially during flight’s unexpected challenges.

Do you have a support system in place? Find your village – those who have your back, whom you can trust. Recognizing when to ask for help empowers us, transforming vulnerability into strength. We are strong, capable, and divine creatures, becoming unstoppable when we open ourselves to support.

What’s holding you back from traveling? Let it not be motherhood. Don’t face the storm of isolation alone; let’s rise above it. If you’re struggling, let’s connect.

Who’s Your Able Body?

Have you ever sat in an exit row? Remember the flight attendant’s briefing? “Are you able and willing to help in an emergency?” We call those passengers “Able Body.” Who is your Able Body person when you need to recharge or take a solo trip to rejuvenate?

Rising Above the Storms

Motherhood can overwhelm us. Tantrums, sleepless nights, and self-doubt leave us feeling lost and uncertain. We question our abilities, wondering if we’re doing enough. But remember: you’re not alone.

I See You

I see exhaustion in your eyes and worry in your heart. I see the weight of responsibility, the pressure to perfection. But I also see:

Strength in your resilience

Hope in your determination

Love in your unwavering commitment

Breaking Through the Clouds

Just as this plane emerges into sunlight, we break through darkness. We rediscover our sparkle, passion, and purpose, finding joy in the journey.
